Recondition Your Own Batteries

the G10 digital camera (nb-7L), or buying a generic "nb-7L" rechargeable battery that costs a lot less? They are both 7.4V. Is the quality different? Am I missing something?

I urge you to be careful – very careful – when buying generic, no-name rechargeable batteries. I base this warning on this article:

After reading it you can decide for yourself if a generic, no-name or unknown name battery is worth risking your camera and/or your personal safety just to save money.

probably nothing much… my Sony gives me the exact % of charge remaining with their brand name battery… generic battery won’t let me do that but it will still have a regular 3-step indicator of charge left… but that’s just for my Sony DSLR, I dunno if the Canon G10 does that… maybe you’re not even missing that… otherwise they are most likely nearly identical… in fact the battery might be from the same factory, its just one will have a Canon stamp on it an one won’t…

The generic battery will be just fine. The difference probably is the miili-amp-hour rating of the battery.

You would not want to pay for one with no name on it (a fake one, say, on ebay that costs $5 or so).

I use generic batteries for my cameras. They work fine. Each one is $10 instead of $100 (I swear an OEM was $99!)

I have used the generics in my Canons G-10, 30D, 300D and 40D with no problem and great success.
