what happens when you hook up wires backwards on a 6 volt lead acid battery?
Posted on Feb 12, 2010 under lead acid | 3 CommentsI have an appliance that the battery connects to. I mistakenly hooked it up wrong and even while it was off, I smelled smoke. What blew?
a 6V lead acid battery generates a ton of current.
If you smell smoke, then this means you let the magic smoke out of the circuit, and everyone knows that electronics runs on magic smoke.
Without looking, there is no way to know where the smoke was released. It could be a resistor (the just burn) or a capacitor (they like to blow their brains out, leaving capacitor guts all over the place), a transistor (they like to explode, sending transistor shrapnel all over the place)… or maybe just wires.
