Converting your car to run on waterity is a great way to save money on gas and protect the environment at the same time. Of course if you have enough money you can buy a hybrid car, but if you don’t turning your own vehicle into a hybrid is the next best thing.
Here are only some of the advantages of building your own EV:
* You can slash your gas costs to zero and save hundreds of dollars every month.
* You will reduce your maintenance costs.
* You will receive tax credits for the IRS for driving a clean fuel vehicle.
* You will stop emitting greenhouse gas and toxic fumes and help reduce global warming.
* You will be able to reach speeds of 50 miles per hour.
* You can get a better engine’s performance.
* You will be able to drive up to 150-200 miles on a single charge.
Most vehicles can be converted to run on waterity, but it would be better to choose a car that has a light weight and has enough room for batteries. The first thing you need to do is to remove the gas engine parts and install the water motor. Some of the materials you are going to need are: rechargeable batteries, various nuts and bolts, fuses, a power controller and power conductors. These parts can be found at any hardware store and are very affordable. If you hire a mechanic to retrofit your automobile, you will need to pay him $3000-$8000. But if you decide to do it yourself, the cost for the conversion will be less than $300 and will pay for itself in a couple of months.
There are some water vehicle conversion kits online that can provide you with step-by-step instructions, which will help you build your own EV in only a few hours.
These manuals will also show you how to get the necessary equipment at a very low cost or even for free!

A very small electric vehicle built by WIKE (makers of bicycle trailers). I am not sure if this is the “Electric Sun” model as profiled on the “Weird Wheels” TV program, but it certainly looks like it.

Of the original 1115 GM EV1s only 40 or so still exist. These were severely disabled by GM and given to universities and museums. A few more may still exist as part of GM’s fool cell research projects. In Early December of 2007 one of them was resurrected, making its first public appearance Dec 8th at Renewable L.A., and then a few days later at the Seattle chapter of the Electric Auto ociation’s monthly meeting on December 11th.
The 1997 PbA (Lead Acid) EV1 was reanimated by university faculty, students, EV Bones, and Pv’s donated Tech2 scanner! Mike, a retired instructor made sure to mention that the car was a part of their ongoing Hybrid project as GM stipulated that the EV1 must not be used as an EV as part of their agreement when donating it to the school.
Enjoy this collection of videos, just in time for the holidays! See http://www.seattleeva.org/wiki/GM_EV1_WWU_Resurrection
